Damned... and i was going to release a slachbuild for a complete ***and working*** gnome 2.14 for the current slackware 10.2
Guess i wait for 11.0 and test with it before i release it.
DV
Befor any tries to flame in here... non of the existing gnome-setups for slackware out there follow my needs so a selfmade script for building a core gnome only was worth the work... |

Doubt it will be yet, considering Patrick's refusal to switch to 2.6.
11 will probably be 2.4 by default again at this rate. |

Maybe not the purists no, but a lot of people are using 2.6 kernels and having great success.
All my dedicated colocation machines run on 2.6. Yes at least *I* can say its stable, I cant speak for everyone else. |

I learned in the past that I never doubt Pat's decisions about his choice of kernel, GCC and other packages. I'm sure he has a good reason to keep old kernel. Anyway, untill he moves to 2.6x and glibc 2.4x I'll keep playing with debian sid. _________________

I don't see the problem. He offers a 2.6 in testing, of course not always up2date, but someone who needs always latest bleeding edge kernel should be able to compile himself. And the others can stick with a testing 2.6 and those who do not need a 2.6 can stick with default kernel.

As always you can get your Slackware 11.0 preorders from LP. Purchasing here not only supports the Slackware project since we are an authorized reseller but also supports us. Not to mention you can save a couple bucks in the process. _________________ http://www.linuxpackages.net |

Is there any information about Slack11. Is there any changelog to see what will be new in Slack 11. Previus relases was only a updated older version.
removing Gnome was the only "hot" in Slack 10.2 |

changelog is on the slackware website.
for as long as i used slack (since 9 i think) there has been no major change in the distro. i like to think that packages are very carefully selected and not just thrown in there for variety's sake. |

Yup, if you read the slackware-current changelog, you'll know exactly what will be in 11.0. (before he goes looking for a changelog for 11.0 )

For the last number of releases there haven't really been shocking developments in the packaged software either, no real need to add something or make big changes.

Ha maybe that is reason why Slack goes down on distrowatch list... Don't get me wrong. I am also Slack user since Slack 9.0 but I don't see any changes since 9.0. Only new packages, so many users abandon Slack.
I still stay on Slack... |
