installed all files for prboom.

put doom-1.8.wad in /usr/share/games/doom

get error message:

prboom v2.2.3 (http://prboom.sourceforge.net/)
Z_Init : Allocated 8064Kb zone memory
IdentifyVersion: IWAD not found

(slackware 8.1 on fast machine)

getting further but can't find file "doom-1.8" or find or find out how to make a prboom.cfg file.

(did read the documentation)

here is what I typed and the response I got:


bash-2.05a$ prboom -iwad /usr/share/games/doom/doom-1.8.wad

Looks like file permissions to me.. Make sure that the .wad file is readable by whatever user you are running prboom as.

permission seems ok -can't seem to find the file doom-1.8 or the file prboom.cfg


error message:

W_AddFile: couldn't open /usr/share/games/doom/doom-1.8

your prboom.cfg file will be placed after a first run in /$HOME/.prboom/prboom.cfg

and as far as prboom not finding your wad file, it might help to add the extension to the filename "doom-1.8.wad" not just "doom-1.8"

lemme know if your still having probs.

hrm I just actually checked out the problem, it seems prboom has a parse error when it comes to files with more than one "." in them.

I renamed doom-1.8.wad to doom.wad and it worked fine.

now I get a new error message:
