Well after much testing and discussion we have decided to sponsor FreeRock Gnome. First there a few gnome projects out there that are great. They all have good points and great folks maintaining them. But we just had to standardize on one. We needed a way to be able to offer gnome packages without the users having to figure out which slackware gnome project the package was built against. Having a choice is great but in this case with third party packages it is not. We have established a mirror of FreeRock both i486 and x86_64 trees of the project.
So if you would like to build packages based on gnome we ask that you use freerock as your base gnome install. We know we will take some heat for this but it was the only way to standardize and no matter what our choice someone would be unhappy. The choice was based on input from the users of the site as well as the packagers. We will also have avaiable the entire build system for FreeRock in the build script archive for those that wish to roll their own.
Thanks for all your support and don't forget to donate if you can. Keep on Slackin
